Butchers and Bakers Carnival, held to raise funds for the Wagga Wagga District Hospital in 1909. The Butchers and Bakers first got together in July 1908 to raise funds for building the new hospital in Edward Street. In that year a fancy dress football match was held at the Wagga Cricket Ground. According to the Daily Advertiser, the ‘play was not always scientific but it was very amusing’. In 1909 the Butchers and Bakers Carnival was held for the first time. It began with a comic procession from the railway station along Baylis and Fitzmaurice Streets and turned down Kincaid Street.
