An investigation is underway after a heavy vehicle carrying chemicals crashed at Adelong yesterday evening.

Emergency services responded to reports that a B-double prime mover had crashed down an embankment at the intersection of the Snowy Mountains Highway and Sandy Gully Road about 5.30pm.

The 55-year-old driver was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Fire and Rescue NSW’s HAZMAT crew worked to contain a leak from one of the trailers.

A recovery operation to remove the vehicle was expected to wrap up this afternoon.
